I’ve had enough. I can’t take it anymore. Who do these Republican White Men think they are!! Last time I checked, none of you have a vagina. You wouldn’t even be able to handle a vagina if you had one. So, please stop trying to tell me how to take care of my vagina. Stop trying to prevent me from planning my pregnancy. Stop trying to take away my access to preventative care for cancer and STDs. Stop! Just STOP!
I am sick and tired of the Republican congress thinking they can control a woman’s body and a woman’s choices. This has nothing to do with running a country. Why does my choice to have a planned pregnancy or prevent serious disease any of your business!! I don’t walk in your bedroom or doctor’s office and tell you how to take care of your body. If you are so concerned about abortions, don’t have one. Oh wait, you can’t have one, because you don’t have a VAGINA! If I want to plan for my future and have control over when I have kids or whether I am healthy, that is my right.
In fact, Planned Parenthood saved my future. I am not ashamed to admit that when I was 21 and made a horrible mistake of missing my birth control pill while with my boyfriend, I decided to terminate the pregnancy. I was 5 weeks along, making the fetus nothing more than a lump of cells. Rather than scared, I felt empowered. I felt in control of my own destiny. I knew that graduating college that year and pursuing my dreams of moving out west to attend Graduate school in Oregon were worth it. At that age, I wasn’t even sure if I wanted kids and I believe no kid should be born unwanted. I didn’t want to put the kid up for adoption, because I would feel guilty if they ended up in the system or resented me for giving them up. So, I made a choice; a choice that is legal due to Roe v. Wade. It was the best choice for me.
I am now engaged to an amazing man, I have a Master’s Degree, I’ve traveled the world, and I’m about to travel again. I never look back in regret. I know that when I’m ready I will have a child that is planned for. (Yes, now I do want children!) Women deserve control of their own bodies. There are too many women and young girls out there giving birth when they aren’t ready. They have to throw away their future to be a mom. Unfortunately, the Republicans only care about the birth of the baby and then after the child is born, they could give a crap about what happens to it. I don’t consider that Pro-life! If you care so much about the life of that child, then why don’t you support that poor mother with more funding for her and the baby? A lot of times the mothers can’t afford a child and end up struggling to raise them, but the Republicans only care about her giving birth and then to hell with the child after that.
There are too many poor women stuck with no options for planning pregnancy due to lack of access to birth control and then they can’t support the child once it is born. This is why a place like Planned Parenthood needs to exist. It helps these young low-income women gain access to free healthcare. They can get free check-ups and preventative care, free birth control to plan when they want kids, and yes free options for if they do get pregnant. The majority of what Planned Parenthood does though has nothing to do with abortions at all. They are making sure that all women have access to good care for their body and future.
I am tired of men thinking they can make laws that control our choices and our bodies. Women’s futures are just as valuable as men’s and it really boils down to the fact that men don’t want women to move up in the world. They want to hold poor women back from succeeding in life. If more poor women are having unwanted pregnancies then that means they most likely won’t be able to go to college or start a higher paying career, thus holding them down. This is not right and it is unconstitutional to make laws that directly control women’s choices and their bodies on moral grounds.
None of the funding that goes to Planned Parenthood even funds abortions. It goes to support their many wonderful services for preventative care to all women regardless of income. When I was unemployed for a year, I was able to get check-ups and free birth control from Planned Parenthood. They have always been there for me and it scares me to think about what many women would do without them.
So please, I beg of you, get your hands off my healthcare and off my body. You have wives and daughters, so how could you stand in the way of their health. You know nothing about vaginas and you should not be allowed to make laws about them.
