Things You Shouldn’t Say to a Pregnant Woman

I’m getting sort of tired of the liberties people take with their commentary towards me while I’m a pregnant. I’m sure I’m not the only pregnant woman feeling this way either. So here you go:

1. Wow you look huge!

2. Are you sure you’re not having twins?

3. Did they get your due date wrong?

4. You’re really filling out that dress.

5. You look so tired.

6. Don’t get too excited yet, you could have a miscarriage.

7. Here have a second slice of cake you’re eating for two.

8. I can’t believe you plan to go back to work.

9. Share yours or anyone else’s horrific birthing story then say good luck!

10. Put hands on their belly and say nothing.

I’m sure there’s more. Feel free to add in the comments session.

My least favourite thing about being pregnant is that everybody seems perfectly OK to comment on my size and shape despite probably never even considering it if I weren’t! All I want to hear is, you look great or nothing at all (even if I don’t) 🙂

    1. Omg right! It’s crazy that you’d never comment like that on someone’s weight but when you’re pregnant people talk about how big you are all the time. It’s hurtful! We already feel insecure and emotional so we just need compliments.

Totally agree! I’ll definitely be more aware of what I say to pregnant ladies in future now I’ve been on the other side of things!

  2. Letting you know that I had two at home, trouble-free births (it is possible! :)). I don’t know what your plans are, but the water birth (my number 2) was way easier than the non-water birth. Best to you! Dawn

    1. Thanks! I am doing a hospital birth but they have a labor tub. You can’t birth in it, but you can do active labor in the tub.
